Barry Evans

Barry Evans draws upon more than forty years’ experience in prosecuting, licensing and litigating patents to protect clients' technology assets, to assist them in private and public financing transactions, to help them in establishing strategic alliances and, where necessary, to enforce their patents or defend them against others.

Mr. Evans has experience in diverse intellectual property matters, including patents, trade secrets, trademarks and copyrights.  He represents clients with a spectrum of technologies from e-commerce to waste treatment.

He concentrates, in particular, on creating and protecting U.S. and foreign patent estates in the fields of biotechnology, medical diagnostics, material sciences, polymers, pharmaceuticals and industrial chemistry.

In addition, he has considerable experience in counseling clients in connection with licensing transactions, including those involving universities and governmental agencies, as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Evans represents several emerging high technology companies. He has acted for individuals, entrepreneurs and privately owned and public companies. He has also worked with investment banks, for which he has performed numerous due diligence studies.

He has served as an expert witness for the Internal Revenue Service on several tax matters where the valuation of patents, trade secrets and trademarks has been at issue.

Mr. Evans’ practice has a significant international component.  He has represented clients in numerous contested matters, including state and federal court actions, as well as oppositions, invalidation trials and other matters in the courts and in patent offices in Europe and Japan.

He has been a guest lecturer in patent law and related intellectual property subjects at Cornell University, Johnson School of Business and School of Chemical Engineering.
