Robert P. MichalPartner Robert P. Michal, chair of the firm’s electronics practice, focuses his active patent practice on counseling clients on strategic planning for their patent portfolios involving patent validity, infringement and patentability, as well as application preparation and prosecution. A significant portion of his practice concentrates in matters related to electrical engineering, software, business methods and consumer products. He has extensive experience in chip design and manufacture, cellular technologies, digital imaging and display technologies. For example, he has had responsibility for patent applications involving semiconductor design, processing methods, mobile telephones and terminals, satellite and radio waves, radio antenna, radio communication channels, and transceivers. He also has focused on printing devices and systems, medical devices, lighting technologies, optical systems, power tools, and construction machinery. As a result, Mr. Michal possesses a high degree of market awareness within these key industries. In the process he has handled a broad range of electronics patents, having prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide array of communications and consumer products technologies. He is especially skilled in wireless communications, telecommunications, and related systems. In his practice, he has developed and managed one of the world’s largest patent portfolios in an emerging technology. He represents well-established and emerging electronics and consumer products companies. An established practitioner, Mr. Michal has extensive experience in applying U.S. Patent Office procedures to obtain the expedited examination of patent applications. He also has cutting-edge experience with inter parte proceedings in both patent and trademark matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His trademark practice includes extensive experience in the prosecution of both domestic and foreign trademark applications, and counseling clients on the selection of marks and infringement issues. Formerly a partner with another New York City-based patent law firm based in New York, Mr. Michal is a frequent guest lecturer on U. S. patent and trademark law before professional audiences around the world.
